The Minnesota State Patrol has released the names of the two people injured and the woman who was killed in an accident Sunday morning on Highway 10 in Becker County.
STATE PATROL RELEASES NAMES OF ACCIDENT VICTIMS
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Fern Bernice Brown, 83, of Frazee, caused the collision when she pulled out in front of an eastbound 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep to hit the driver’s side of Ms. Brown’s Buick as she was attempting to cross U.S. Highway 10.
The crash occurred on Highway 10 East near Detroit Lakes in the 290th Avenue and McHugh Road area, which is near the South Shore Drive turn on Highway 10.
Two Wadena residents in the Jeep were injured — the driver, Jolene Gail Herr, 47, and a passenger, Jaden Joelle Herr, 21. Both went to the St. Mary’s Essentia Health emergency room in Detroit Lakes with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.
NOTE: “non-life-threatening injuries” are often terrible life-changing injuries. A crash victim can have a brain injury, break bones, and have permanent painful neck and back injuries in a terrible crash, and the State Patrol still describes the injuries as “non-life-threatening.”
Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt; airbags deployed in the Jeep, but not in the Buick. No alcohol was involved in the crash, which was reported shortly after 8 a.m. on dry pavement in Burlington Township.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office and Detroit Lakes Fire Department assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
