Motorcyclist Killed in Collision with U.S. Postal Service Van
A motorcycle driver was killed in a collision with a U.S. Postal Service van near Wolf Lake, east of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, on June 22, 2024.
A U.S. Postal Service van turned left in front of the oncoming motorcycle, according to initial reports.
At approximately 2:51 p.m., the Becker County Sherriff’s Office received a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on County Highway 40, approximately 3 miles east of the city of Wolf Lake. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where they found the driver of the motorcycle, Travis Michael Hanks, 39, of Menahga, deceased.
Evidence at the scene indicated that the eastbound motorcycle crashed into the U.S. Postal Service van, as the van turned across the eastbound lane into a driveway. The driver of the van was not injured.
The Sheriff’s office was assisted by Wolf Lake Rescue, Wolf Lake Fire Department and the MN State Patrol. The incident remains under investigation.
