Car Accident near Pelican Rapids causes serious injuries.

A head-on vehicle collision on Highway 59 in Otter Tail County on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:14 p.m., resulted in life-threatening injuries for 55-year-old Steven A. Kieffer of Pelican Rapids. A northbound Toyota RAV4 was driven by 28-year-old Mercedes De Los Angeles Morales Mondragon of Pelican Rapids.  The RAV4 collided with a southbound Honda Civic, driven by 55-year-old Steven Andrew Kieffer, also of Pelican Rapids.

BOTH DRIVERS WERE HURT. 

Kieffer was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with life-threatening injuries. Mondragon sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Essentia Hospital Emergency Department in Detroit Lakes.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. on Highway 59.

Local responders, including the Pelican Rapids Police Department, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Pelican Rapids Fire, and Ringdahl Ambulance, assisted at the scene. The road was dry at the time of the accident. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not believed to have been a factor. The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate.
